Last night my friend Mervin lent me this book called Asterios Polyp written and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. It was a thick graphic novel. But i read through it in almost one sitting. I only had a few pages left, when my officemates decided to watch Chris Rock in a stand-up gig he did a few years back - really funny! Anyway, i finished the remaining few pages this morning. It would be a very easy feat to finish the book, it is really interesting read. I liked the story telling, it was very simple yet intelligent. The story had a good build up and a unique ending. I appreciated the detail that went into each character and how real they seemed. I is also evident that a great deal of research and observation was done for the book. Truly much love and passion went into it. The illustrations was also amazing, it was simple but very art directed. The color palette was a bit subdued and very soft to the eyes, making it very reader friendly.
When i opened this book last night and read a few pages i was immediately absorbed by it. It was whimsically intelligent and a well crafted book. I enjoyed every page of it.
